Vegan Mike Tyson in ‘best shape ever’ ahead of long-awaited return to boxing

Former professional boxer and undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has announced that he will be stepping back into the ring.

Tyson, who has been vegan since 2009, will fight against fellow American boxing legend Roy Jones Jr on September 12th in Los Angeles in an eight-round bout.

In 2013, Tyson spoke publicly about how becoming vegan had helped to turn his life around after hitting ‘rock bottom’ four years prior.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, he stated: “My life is different today because I have stability in my life. I’m not on drugs. I’m not out on the streets or in clubs and everything in my life that I do now is structured around the development of my life and my family.

 “I lost weight. I dropped over 100lbs and I just felt like changing my life, doing something different and I became a vegan.

 “Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life. I was so congested from all the drugs and bad cocaine; I could hardly breathe. High blood pressure, almost dying, arthritis, and once I became a vegan all that stuff diminished.”

Tyson’s comeback fight is his first in over 15 years, though recent training videos show that he has been getting stronger than ever, which he has credited to his vegan lifestyle.
