Good Catch Foods gives out free vegan tuna front of Subway

Good Catch Foods, known for its vegan seafood, decided to troll select Subway locations recently. With a van parked outside of Subway locations in New York City, Austin, TX, and London, England on July 15,, the van provided passersby with free footlong vegan tuna sandwiches. The van took a shot at Subway’s infamous “have it your way” slogan with an “OurWay” logo plastered on the side.

Good Catch organized this event to promote moving away from commercial fishing, something the documentary Seaspiracy has brought major awareness to. Through this one-day promotion, Good Catch hoped to not only shed light on the damage that tuna fishing is doing to sea life but also to let Subway customers know just how good sustainable fish-free alternatives are.

There’s more to this event than just giving out free food. Good Catch has also set up a social media campaign to demand Subway remove fish from its menus entirely. The brand wants others to make their own fish-less subs, share their creations on social media, tag Subway’s accounts, and use the hashtag #FishFreeForGood.

Chad Sarno, co-founder and Chief Culinary Officer at Good Catch, described their goals: “Our mission is to make plant-based seafood that’s good for the sea and all life who call it home. Large commercial fishing is one of the most destructive activities in our oceans,” he said. “We can do better. We’re here to offer great tasting seafood alternatives without by-catch, mercury, or environmental damage.”
