Free Solo’s Alex Honnold announces vegan protein partnership to benefit charity
Alex Honnold, pro climber and star of Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo, has collaborated on a plant-based protein release, with a portion of sales set to benefit his non-profit, the Honnold Foundation.
We could explain the whole thing to you, but he does a perfectly good job of it himself — and that’s easier, anyway. It is Monday, after all. We’re all tired.
“I have been eating a mostly plant-based diet for many years in an effort to reduce my environmental impact,” he said, in a video shared on Instagram.
“And when I invested in Momentous last year, we worked together to develop a plant-based line, and so now that that is on sale, $6 from each bottle of the plant-based line will go to support the foundation.”

A bit of a run-on sentence, perhaps, but stay with us. We haven’t hit the good part yet.
“Six dollars is enough to buy a solar lantern in parts of the world that don’t really have access to energy, so it’s pretty simple,” he added.
“Just remember, one bottle equals one solar lantern, and try it out.”
Well, that’s easy enough to digest — even on the first day of the week.
According to Momentous, the new protein is “the highest quality plant protein source available”, and is free of dairy, gluten and soy. It won’t, however, give you the ability to climb El Capitan without safety gear, so don’t even think about it.
The Honnold Foundation campaign will run until May 1. Those looking to support the campaign or try the plant-based product can find it here.
