Your guide to a vegan Saint Patrick’s Day you can feel good about
So, Saint Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and you’re looking to “turn up” vegan style. No worries — we got you.
What follows is a guide to keeping things conscious as you celebrate all things Irish this year, so you can feel good inside, even if you’re a bit rough on the outside come Monday morning.

Guinness
No sweat here, folks. You’ll be happy to know that after decades of using fish bladders in production, this iconic Irish brew is now vegan-friendly in keg, can and bottle forms.

Guzzle
Those looking for a drink that’s equally festive, but will spare you the consequences of alcohol, may want to consider a vegan shamrock shake.
The Ultimate Vegan Shamrock Shake, from Sam Turnbull of It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken, should be just what you’re looking for — brain freeze risk still applies.

Grub
For those headed to a pub or restaurant to celebrate St Paddy’s Day, a bit of planning may be in order.
It’s always a good idea to scope out the menu and, if necessary, contact the venue in advance to see what the options are, so you can plan ahead to stay satiated.
You know what they say about drinking on an empty stomach. Don’t do it.
Those attending a party, on the other hand, may want to bring their own plant-based party dish along, such as this vegan Guinness cake, or a meat-free shepherd’s pie like this one from Minimalist Baker.

Garb
So, you’re thinking of going out and buying disposable hats, bow ties or those ridiculous shot glasses you wear around your neck to celebrate St Paddy’s in style?
Well, single-use and novelty party accessories are not an everyday-use kind of thing and, not to be a party pooper, we are in the midst of what appears to be a massive environmental crisis.
So, maybe this year we consider borrowing, making or thrifting some super green gear before clearing out our local dollar store.
Lastly, don’t forget to have fun and plan ahead to get home safely.
