Whole Foods Market’s nonprofit to bring salad bars to 75,000 school children

Whole Kids Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation from grocery giant Whole Foods Market, is set to bring salad bar access to 75,000 school-aged children this year, in partnership with Salad Bars to Schools.

Apparently, Whole Foods is more than just the place we go to buy green juice and luxury vegan products while showing off the yoga gear we never actually use. Go figure.

The initiative, which includes a $500,000 cash injection, aims to make healthy eating accessible for children in the United States.

Boy Eating Lunch

“Every salad bar gives kids access to fresh vegetables and fruit every day, which allows them to make healthy food choices,” said Nona Evans, the executive director and president of the nonprofit.

“We are so proud to be a part of the movement working to support a healthier generation of kids.”

According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, salad-bar access has been shown to triple children’s fruit and veg consumption, paving the way to nutritious eating, which is instrumental to their academic success.

Now we just need to sort out how to get Whole Foods to put salad bars in our homes, and we’ll be all set.
