Venus Williams is a veteran vegan

Yvonne O'Halloran

The famous Olympian tennis player has credited her vegan diet in changing her life and allowing her to continue in her sport.

Williams was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Sjögren’s Syndrome, that causes pain in  her joints and causes fatigue. Of course Williams being an athlete, this could’ve ended her tennis career.

Instead of taking multiple medications to manage the disease, she turned to food as her medicine. She says she wanted to be able to take control of her body through what she ate.

The tennis pro even launched her own vegan protein shake brand, Happy Viking and is an investor for a vegan grocery store, PlantX.

According to Plant Based News, even a professional athlete can be a “junk food junkie”. Williams confessed she still loves her junk food and how it can be hard eating on the road so much.

Williams is a shining example of how impactful a plant-based diet can be and will continue to be an inspiration.
