Vegan athlete wins the worlds toughest race again

Yvonne O'Halloran

Harvey Lewis is a vegan athlete that has recently placed first in a race called the “Badwater 135”. This particular race is dubbed as “the world’s toughest foot race”.

The starting line of the race begins 85m below sea level at Badwater Basin, Death Valley. This is the lowest elevation in North America. The race spans 135 miles/217 km and ends at Whitney Portal, the highest point in the U.S at 2530m.

Lewis was able to complete this race with a time of 25:50:23, despite the 100℉ weather. This is the tenth time the 45-year old has competed in this race, and the second time he has won it.

According to Plant Based News, Lewis dedicates his health and his success to his plant-based diet. He stopped consuming meat in 1996, and fully transitioned to a plant-based diet in 2016.

He has said that this diet has given him more energy, and helped in his digestion and inflammation.

More and more athletes are switching over to a plant-based diet not only to improve their performance in their sport, but for their overall health as well.

Harvey Lewis is just one of many examples of how a plant-based diet can give you the necessary nutrients to not only survive, but thrive.
