Vegan athlete completes 24 hour cycling challenge, breaking three world records

World champion triathlete Kate Strong has become the first women to hold a record for cycling on a static bike for over 24 hours, breaking three Guinness World Records in the process.

Beginning at 3pm on May 26 in Bristol, UK, Strong recorded the entire challenge with a Facebook Live video, documenting the many highs and lows.

In an Instagram post before the challenge, she stated: “The result isn’t what fuels me. The opportunity to elevate myself to this level and strive for something more, something greater is what will keep me going through the 24 hours.”

After her incredible result, the plant-powered athlete thanked her supporters for cheering her along, noting that she ‘cried for hours on the bike’ because she was ‘overwhelmed with the generosity, belief and support’.

As well as dispelling the myth that vegans are ‘weak’, Strong also wanted the challenge to inspire fellow women.

“There exists a World Record for the furthest distance cycled on a static bike in 24 hours for a male… yet not a female. I intend to rectify this.” She states on her website.

Strong certainly achieved her goal and has since told her followers that she is ‘alive, recovering and feeling so much love for you all’.
