The Animal Rescue League of Boston is taking in pets of owners face housing instability

For Massachusetts residents with pets, the recent expiration of the state’s eviction moratorium can potentially cause a lot of problems. Not only will it leave humans out on the streets, but their pets will be at risk as well. Luckily for those in Boston, the Animal Rescue League is offering some help.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston announced that they will provide temporary housing for pets whose owners will face housing instability. For now, any at-risk resident may possibly be eligible to give their pet to the ARL. The ARL will house the pet until the owner regains housing stability.

To determine eligibility, residents must go through a pre-screening process. If accepted, they will be responsible for transporting their pet to the ARL. From there, the pet will receive a veterinary screening and behavioral evaluation. This will enable them to go to the appropriate foster home.

The Animal Rescue League does have conditions for this new program. Animals in the ARL’s foster care network are only allowed a 120-day stay. Additionally, pet owners must agree to other parameters, including bi-weekly check-ins while their pet is in its foster home.

The ARL’s animal care and adoption center management staff is coordinating animal admissions, as space allows.
