Ricky Gervais & Peter Egan launch campaign to ban the breeding of dogs for painful experiments

Celebrity and comedian Ricky Gervais and vegan actor and advocate Peter Egan have launched an important campaign to ban factory farms from breeding dogs for painful toxicity experiments that occur in labs across the UK.

UK law requires that all new medicines are to be tested on two animals before being put on the market for humans to purchase. One of the animals can be a rodent and another must be non-rodent, in this case-dogs.

The campaign follows after new footage from Britan’s largest beagle farm revealed terrified dogs being shoved into overcrowded trolleys to be transported to labs across the country. Animal rights campaigners claim that experiments are normally carried out on dogs including force feeding them a cocktail of chemicals for up to 3 months without any pain relief. Many are killed after the experiments are complete.

Gervais said that he was deeply shocked to learn about the intensive breeding programs of Beagles in the search for human experiments and cures.

Please help us raise awareness of this appalling state of affairs. Help me ban the factory farming of dogs with a thorough public scientific hearing, to judge the outdated and false claims about human medicine which continue to fund this terrible cruelty to man’s best friend.”

He went on to say: “Please join me in asking the Government to mandate this science hearing: ask your MP to sign EDM 175.”

Peter Egan added: “I am appalled to learn that thousands of dogs are incarcerated in intensive breeding units, right here in the UK, to prepare them for frightening and painful experiments that can involve being force-fed chemicals for up to 90 days, with no pain relief or anaesthetic.”

According to The Mirror, test figures show that dogs have been used in 4,227 experiments in 2019 and 96% were beagles.
