Old Navy introduces sugar-based sandals

Old Navy is taking steps to be more sustainable, and it starts with sandals. The fashion retailer has just launched new women’s flip-flops and slides that are both plant-based and eco-friendly.

With EVA foam outsoles made from 51-percent renewable sugarcane, this new line of sandals couldn’t come at a better time. The ongoing climate crisis is making consumers very cautious of what they purchase and where they purchase it from, and Old Navy is now offering something environmentally conscious.

The flip-flops details really drive home the sustainability point: “These flip-flops are partially made from renewable sugarcane, which helps cut down on our consumption of fossil fuels,” it states. “It looks and feels just like your favorite flip-flops, while helping reduce our carbon footprint.”

This decision comes on the heels of another retail giant offering more sustainable options. Kindly, a new intimates brand, boasts the first plant-based bra cups, which are also made from sugarcane. The bras are made from 75-percent recycled materials and are available exclusively at Walmart and its website.

Old Navy’s latest fashion offering is available in a variety of styles: classic, T-strap, Jelly Criss-Cross, and Jelly Slide. Besides solid colors, these sustainable sandals also come in fun patterns, such as ombré, leopard print, and tye-dye.
