Mexico is the first North American country to ban cosmetic testing

Mexico’s senate has collectively supported the creation of a new law that will ban cosmetic testing.

Moreso, the law will also prohibit the manufacturing, importing, and marketing of any cosmetics that have been tested on animals. This new law will take two years to fully come into effect.

Mexico is the 41st country to join the cruelty free side, and hopefully their message will spread across the rest of North America. Columbia, many parts of Brazil, and multiple states in the U.S have already finalized the ban.

Antón Aguilar has been quoted by Live Kindly saying, “We thank the Mexican Government for showing leadership on this important issue, and we will continue to work with them to implement the commitments and enforce a robust ban.”

Antón is the executive director for the non-profit, Humane Society International/Mexico (HSI), who has been an avid supporter in the movement for Mexico to go cruelty free. HSI has also said that the release of a particular movie in Mexico helped to move the senate’s decision along.

The movie, called Save Ralph, is about a rabbit who survives cosmetic animal testing, but not without loss The rabbit has lost an ear and sight in one of his eyes.

With more countries taking action against the cruel side of animal testing, it is certainly a win for the animals.
