Meat-free Impossible Burger to hit 570 Red Robin locations

US restaurant chain Red Robin will roll out the plant-based Impossible Burger to all of its 570 restaurants next month.

The Impossible Burger, the flagship product of plant-based brand Impossible Foods, will appear on menus from April 1, allowing consumers to sample a meat-free patty, designed to taste much like the real thing, at any of the chain’s restaurants.

In addition to a burger specifically featuring the Impossible Foods patty, consumers will have the option to replace any animal-based patty with the meat-free alternative.

“Our fans expect variety, creativity and culinary innovation at Red Robin, so it was important for us to offer a plant-based option that appeals to traditional burger lovers, flexitarians and everyone craving a delicious burger,” said Red Robin vice president and chief concept officer Jonathan Muhtar.

“Cool,” you might say, before mumbling something about flexitarians under your breath.

“But I’m vegan. Will this burger work for me?”

Well, cranky pants, that’s up for debate. Impossible Foods uses an ingredient called heme, once tested on rats, to make the plant-based patty, which has led to dispute of its vegan status. What you want to do with that information is up to you.
