Lewis Hamilton’s dog is now vegan after struggling with health issues

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton took to Instagram to announce that his beloved dog Roscoe is now ‘fully vegan’. The news comes after Hamilton’s other bulldog Coco passed away last month from a suspected heart attack.

English bulldogs suffer a range of health problems due to a long history of inbreeding to manipulate their appearance. These can include breathing problems due to their narrow nostrils, heart defects, and deformed spinal bones.

Sharing an adorable snap of the pooch, he stated: “Since he has gone vegan, his coat is much softer, his swollen paws have healed up, he is no longer limping with the pain of arthritis and his breathing has opened up. Super happy with the result and he is too.”

Animal rights charity PETA has claimed that dogs can be plant-based, so long as they meet their nutritional requirements. Vegan dog foods are usually fortified with two essential amino acids, L-carnitine and taurine, though supplements may be required.

Experts do not recommend changing a dog’s diet without the supervision of a veterinary-trained nutritionist.
