Jaden Smith set to open vegan restaurant with free meals for the homeless

Two years ago, Jaden Smith launched the I Love You Restaurant in Los Angeles, an initiative to combat food insecurity amongst the homeless with a food truck offering free, healthy vegan meals.

The website states: “Our mission is to spread love to communities experiencing food and/or housing insecurity by offering water along with fresh, high-quality, and delicious sustainable meal options,”

The movement successfully delivered thousands of meals as well as masks, clothes, hand sanitizer and other items needed by the homeless residents of LA.

Now, Smith is on a mission to create a version of his I Love You concept that will have a more permanent home.

The restaurant will be run on a ‘pay as you can’ philosophy, encouraging those who can afford a meal to do so as this will effectively pay for someone who can’t.

“It’s for homeless people to get free food,” Smith told Variety. “But if you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you.”
