Hundreds gather to give 10 Downing Street a letter for a vegan future
On the 6th of August, about 500 people gathered in central London for a historical National Animal Rights March. Vegans are assembling in mass to call for awareness to the environmental consequences of animal agriculture.
Two members of Animal Rebellion UK delivered a letter to the Prime Minister’s Residence. This letter clearly states the evidence for why a plant-based future is in the interest of the UK public and voices that if the government decides to refute the science… then members of the public will have no choice but to engage in non-violent civil disobedience to protect animals, humans, nature, and the entire planet.
We are in a climate crisis… and the way we produce food is a massive contribution to environmental degradation and pollution. To reduce pollution, free up land and produce more food with greater efficiency, a plant-based future is a no brainer.
Since Animal Rebellion have already started to engage in some “illegal” shenanigans, like occupying milk isles and pouring milk onto the floor… they have wracked up a fair bit of press already. Whilst most still recoil at such methods, an interview in Good Morning Britain showed a surprising response from one of the interviewers
The first interviewer took the usual response of ridiculing protest action by exclaiming that he, himself, already knew the importance of becoming plant-based and that these acts are not what won him over. Another interviewer put a twist on the usual protest bashing of the mainstream media and highlighted the extreme measures that the suffragettes went to for women’s rights. It was also remarked that the protests themselves meant that here they were, on Good Morning Britain, talking about it.
Not everyone is aware of the urgency required to adapt to the climate crisis. The mainstream media fail to report the seriousness of the transition that is necessary to secure a liveable future. Marches, protests, and interviews like this are crucial for revolution.
So let us follow the momentum of the vegan movement and see it through around the globe. For our own wellness and survival. For the welfare of animals. For the flourishing of biodiversity. For the health of our home.
