Farm Sanctuary Is Now Working on Social Justice Issues

Yvonne O'Halloran

Farm Sanctuary, a New York-based animal protection organization, is now tackling social justice issues. They’ve recently launched a new website in an effort to expand its advocacy efforts.

Now, the organization will not only advocate for animals suffering from industrial agriculture, but their new site serves as a digital resource to highlight other issues of oppression that are the result of the global food system. This includes social injustices, human rights violations, and community health crises, showing that all of these issues are connected.

Their hope is to educate the public on the importance of moving to a plant-based lifestyle, showing that it will create lasting social change.

This isn’t the first time Farm Sanctuary has championed these types of issues. In the past, they’ve had panel discussions, events, advocacy actions, and more to emphasize such topics. Now, however, the organization believes that it is time to have this long-overdue conversation.

One issue they are highlighting is the plight of the workers in factory farms, slaughterhouses, and processing plants. Many are low-income people with few other options for work and deal with unsafe conditions everyday.

Through the new website, Farm Sanctuary is encouraging consumers to look at our food system through a social justice lens.
