Chobani becomes even more sustainable

The well known yogurt brand, Chobani, is changing up the packaging for its vegan oat milk yogurts in order to become even more sustainable.

The new yogurt cups are made from 80% paperboard, meaning most of the plastic has been replaced on the packaging besides the thin lining. The lining is what helps to preserve the yogurt and keep it fresh.

The oat milk yogurts aren’t the only products that have gotten a makeover, either. Their oat milk carton, cold brew coffee, and creamers are all also in paperboard packaging.

According to VegNews  the creator and CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya, said, “We all have a role to play in protecting our planet. People have been asking for a paper cup, and we welcome this challenge to start reducing our plastic use, and to spark a conversation about how we can drive change together.”

The company knows that recycling mixed material packaging is quite difficult, so they are working with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and policymakers to change the infrastructure of U.S recycling.

Ulukaya said that this is a step in the right direction, but that this is still the beginning of the changes they will be making. The company will continue to change their products packaging from plastic to paper.
