Beauty brand Aveda goes fully vegan

Aveda, a cruelty-free haircare and beauty brand, has announced that its products will no longer contain animal products. As such, all Aveda products are now completely vegan.

Since its 1978 inception, Aveda has always been cruelty-free while also featuring a focus on environmentalism. Although most of the brand’s 500 products were also vegan, until now, there were some that still contained honey, beeswax, and other beeswax-derived ingredients. However, the brand has decided that the use of animal-derived ingredients no longer fits their mission.

According to Vice President of Research and Development Christine Hall, this decision was a natural progression for the brand. “Aveda was founded on an environmental mission, so becoming vegan was a natural next step for us to continue to lessen our impact on the planet,” she said. “We were further compelled to expedite the process when faced with the facts around the impact of animal-derived ingredients on the health of the planet.”

Even better, Aveda isn’t stopping there: it is also partnering with Veganuary to encourage employees and customers alike to go vegan for the month of January. This makes the brand the first United States-based beauty brand to support and promote the vegan challenge.
