Barack Obama is all for plant-based food

Barack Obama, the 45th president of the United States, has recently celebrated his 60th birthday with a plant-based twist. The celebration took place at his property called Martha’s Vineyard, where there was a fully plant-based menu offered to guests.

The menu included impressive items such as spam musubi and cheesesteak eggrolls, which used ingredients from vegan brands Impossible Foods and JUST Egg.

The musical artist “Questlove” was the one behind the creation of the menu.

Obama and the former First-Lady, Michelle Obama, both are huge supporters for moving towards a healthier, more plant-based way of eating. They both have taken stands to try to promote the lifestyle and make changes where they could.

During Barack Obama’s presidency, Michelle Obama created the Hunger-Free Act, which requires schools to serve more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. The goal was to allow lower income students to have healthy options as well.

Barack Obama delivered a speech in Italy at the Seed & Chips Global Food Innovation Summit. He noted how much of a negative impact animal agriculture has on the environment and the changes that needed to be made.

According to VegNews, Obama was quoted saying, “As people want to increase more meat consumption, that in turn is spiking the growth of greenhouse emissions coming out of the agricultural sectors…We’re also going to have to find ways to produce protein in a more efficient way.”

Hopefully, through the years there will be a breakthrough and a plant-based diet will become more common than a typical omnivore/carnivore diet.
