Animal rights icon Dr Jane Goodall says story of Tarzan inspired her work

Famed animal advocate and conservationist Dr Jane Goodall appeared on The Ellen Show this week, where she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that it was the story of Tarzan that inspired her work.

“I fell in love with Tarzan,” she told Ellen.

“But what did he do? He married the wrong Jane!”

Fair enough. Let’s not go pretending that none of us carried a secret torch for Jessica Rabbit or that one guy from Reboot — that said, not all of these crushes inspire such greatness.

Goodall

Dr Goodall’s appearance occurred on the day of her 85th birthday, and also included discussion of the pursuit of dreams, the importance of caring for animals, and her experience working with chimpanzees.

In fact, footage of a recent chimpanzee release was shared with the show’s audience. The video showed a chimpanzee that, prior to sauntering off into the forest, held Dr Goodall in a long embrace. It was their first time meeting.

Looks like the animals know more than we think. Perhaps it’s time we started watching our backs.
