Californias oldest dairy farm closes west of the Rocky Mountains after 125 years. The business, known as Giacomazzi Dairy was known as the oldest operating dairy farm in California. Operated by fourth-generation owner Dino Giacomazzi, said: “All our costs are going up, and the only way to keep dairying was to invest in a major expansion — double our size,” which the family decided not to do, he said.

In an interview with ABC, Dairy owner Dino Giacomazzi said ” Over the last five years, it’s been very difficult to make money in the dairy industry [due to] regulations, increased cost of labor, low milk prices”.

He goes onto say: “There’s a lot of alternatives that provide a higher return than milking cow”. They are working on transitioning their 400 acre farm to an almond farm with a goal to expand it to 900 acres in the coming years.

It’s predicated the beef and dairy industry could totally collapse by 2030 due to new technologies.
