Costco-stocked veggie burgers and bites to go fully vegan

Meat and meat-alternative brand Don Lee Farms has announced that two of its non-vegan products, Organic Veggie Burgers and Organic Veggie Bites, are going fully plant-based.

Sold at wholesale chain Costco, the two meat-free options are currently vegetarian, but will be vegan friendly in time for summer, joining Plant-Based Burgers as part of its Don Lee Farms growing vegan range.

“But vegan food,” you might say.

“It tastes like feet.”

Maybe some, but certainly not all of it. According to Don Lee Farms President Donald Goodman, the new products not only match, but even outperform the original recipes in taste tests.

“We knew we were ready with this launch when our plant-based formulas handily beat out our vegetarian ones in every blind cutting we performed,” he said.

He explained also that the shift is part of a grander plan to maintain a strong position in a booming vegan market.

“We push forward with continuous innovation in all categories we sell in and have a determined focus to continue our lead in the organic plant-based space.”

Not a bad plan if you’re asking us, or anyone who’s seen A&W or Greggs sales numbers of late.

Shopping cart warriors willing to do the whole Costco thing in order to get their hands on the revamped products should check the packaging for “vegan” and “plant-based” labelling prior to purchase. Just be ready for battle — discounted toilet paper and industrial size jugs of tahini are serious business for some folks.
