Animal Rebellion Michelin Star Restaurant Protests
As a huge year of activist escalation comes to an end, the UK’s Animal Rebellion has faithfully seen the lead up to Christmas with a new type of action.
Vegan activists have been staging ‘sit ins’ all over the country. A cleverly designed form of protest that can be enacted by small groups, many times over, to achieve quite a bit of publicity for their campaign- ‘Plant-based Future’.
Animal Rebellion aren’t just targeting anyone. They are targeting restaurants that make obscene profits from a menu fuelled by animal suffering. Some of these menus are 95% meat, or refuse to cater to vegans, whilst their famous chefs talk of being innovators of the culinary arts.
Rebels enter these restaurants and take up seats, holding a fake menu that states their demands.
These ‘sit-ins’ seem to be less controversial than pouring milk on to shop floors or occupying supermarket isles.
On the Animal Rebellion website, it states ‘these luxury meat-heavy restaurants represent exploitation, environmental devastation and inequality- they have no place in a just and sustainable #PlantBasedFuture’.
They draw upon the immense amount of deforestation that can be attributed to animal agriculture, as well as the wasteful use of land and fodder to produce animal products with an inefficient calory output for the energy invested.
The rise of vegan activism this year is an exciting prospect for how far the movement has come.
