Vegan activist and actress launches high-end vegan bag collection
Celebrity vegan activist and actress Pamela Anderson has a launched a cruelty-free collection of luxury handbags made from apple leather.
Anderson has teamed up with Ashoka Paris to create the “PETA-Approved Vegan” to launch the collection of handbags which is crafted from fruit waste.
The bags are available in black, nude, terracotta, and red and feature brushed, golden clasps and a pop art–style lining, which is made from recycled plastic bottles and carries a motif of Pamela’s stylised lips as well as her slogan “RÉSISTE!”.
To mark the release of the collection, PETA UK will hold a giveaway on its website for the opportunity to win a free Pamela Shopping Bag.
Over 1 billion animals are killed for leather every year, according to PETA.
PETA says that in addition to sparing animals immense suffering and a violent death, vegan leather has a smaller carbon footprint than animal-derived materials, as animal agriculture – which includes the leather industry – is one of the leading contributors to the climate catastrophe.
A portion of the sales of the new collection, priced between £225-£279, will go to the Pamela Anderson Foundation. Ashoka Paris donates a percentage of its profits to animal rights organisations.
