New York’s city mayor Eric Adams has rolled out an inititatve called Vegan Fridays at all of the 1,700 public schools in New York city. All participating schools will serve only plant-based meals on Fridays in am aim to deal with healthcare issues. This initiative will be rolled out to K-12 students.

Students can however ask non-vegan meals if they wish. Eric Adams has claimed that a plant-based diet reversed his diabetes and has been following a plant-based diet since 2016 (even though he does apparently eat fish from time to time). He has been mayor for new York city since November 2021.

Adams stated ” The children have been calling me and saying they want better food in schools, and I’m going to do the best I can to give them the options of a more healthier diet so we can stop the feeding crisis”.

“We talk about fighting childhood obesity, diabetes yet you go into a school building everyday and you see the food that feeds your healthcare crisis” Adams stated.

Let’s hope that this initiative expands across the world to allow all school children access healthier food options.
