Reports indicate that Veganuary 2021 saved an estimated 2 million animal’s lives
During the month of January, huge numbers of people across the globe adopt a more plant-based diet, signing up for the yearly initiative Veganuary.
Veganuary saw the highest number of sign-ups this year, though it is thought that thousands more participated unofficially. This is estimated to have saved an incredible 2 million animal’s lives in just one month.
A recent YouGov survey indicates that at least 5% of the UK population attempted to eat vegan in January 2021, equating to around three million people in the United Kingdom alone.
Kantar also conducted a survey which found that around half of these participants aimed to continue eating a more plant-based diet after January.
The success of this years campaign is unsurprising, given the fact that Veganuary estimates 825 new vegan products and menu options were launched during the first month of the year, making veganism much more accessible.
Commenting on the impact of Veganuary’s biggest year yet, Ria Rehberg, Veganuary’s CEO, says: “This year, more than ever, I feel that another world is possible.”
“A world where plant-based food is the mainstream choice, where the word vegan is associated with something positive and desirable, where major food companies are investing millions to switch to more sustainable animal-free options and are telling the world that this is the food of the future – and the food of today.”
“A world where vegan products are easily accessible to everyone everywhere, omnipresent in supermarkets, restaurants and in cafeterias. This January gave us a glimpse of what is possible.”
