Jeremey Clarkson claims that vegans have corrupted David Attenborough documentaries
It is curious to think that a television presenter from Top Gear, thinks it is his place to comment on the validity of David Attenborough’s documentaries. Seriously… the audacity is quite funny. He has claimed that ‘vegan communists’ write the show and told the notoriously sensationalist tabloid, The Sun, that Frozen Planet II failed to mention the positives of global warming…
David Attenborough has been an advocate for the environment since the 1950s. He received his university degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University and has watched ecosystems decay before his very eyes. Over the years, Attenborough has inspired millions of people to reengage with the natural world.
Jeremy Clarkson, who claims to be an avid “climate observer”, has decided to focus on the very few upsides of global warming. His examples included that melting ice allows whales to surface more frequently, and that the change in UK weather is benefitting the long-tailed tit. These are weak statements of support when countered by the enormous list of peer-reviewed research showing population decline of most bird species, and all animals. As for melting ice… this has reduced the habitat available to many polar animals, which will have knock-on effects across the animal kingdom. These knock-on effects are not always so clear cut to label as ‘bad’, but what we can say is that they will drastically affect rates of change, by which the animal kingdom must reorganise to survive, putting pressure on adaptation. This may include hybridisation of species, changes in food chains and animal nutrition, etc. Furthermore, many people will be displaced from their homes due to sea level rise. But most terrifyingly, loss of ice makes for a reduced albedo effect. The melting of ice at the polar regions is a positive feedback loop, by which less ice means less of the sun’s radiation is deflected back into the atmosphere, and more heat is absorbed into the water… and in turn more ice melts.
Jeremy Clarkson said his own personal response to hearing the negative impacts of climate change is to drink a beer and turn up his own central heating in retaliation.
As for insinuating that the ‘vegan agenda’ is some dark conspiracy taking over our nature documentaries… well… maybe, just maybe… its because being vegan is what’s best for the natural world.
