IKEA’s new vegan meatballs have just 4% of the climate footprint of their meat counterpart
Many would argue that no trip to IKEA is complete without sitting down to enjoy their famous Swedish meatballs. However, those choosing to ditch meat have been unable to enjoy this iconic dish- until now that is.
The furniture giant has said that the meat like balls will be available from August 3rd. They will cost £1.50 for diners of the bistro, and £2.75 for a 500g bag to take home. The bistro will also offer them as part of a meal with potato mash and lingonberry jam, though vegans are advised that the mash contains dairy.
The plant-based meatballs have a base of yellow pea protein, with oats, potato, onion and apple. They were created as part of IKEA’s commitment to a sustainable future.
According to IKEA, the vegan version of their popular dish has just 4% of the climate footprint that the meat-based balls have.

Hege Sæbjørnsen, country sustainability manager, IKEA UK and Ireland has stated:”At IKEA, we are committed to having a positive impact on people and the planet,”
He went on to say “With the new plant ball we can now offer meat lovers a great tasting, more sustainable alternative – without compromising on the IKEA meatball experience that is loved by so many.”
