Oat milk sales soar at British supermarket Waitrose

Yvonne O'Halloran

Oat milk sales at British supermarket giant Waitrose have risen by a staggering 113% over the past year.

Online searches for oat milk have also shot up, with the supermarket revealing that searches for the term “oat milk” have increased by 210% and searches for the term “barista oat milk” have increased by an unbelievable 1,517% when compared to last year.

Waitrose further revealed that it is not just oat milk that has experienced a spike in sales over the past twelve months, they have also seen sales of barista-style plant milks increase by 64%. According to the retailer, this could be due to coffee lovers looking to recreate their favourite coffee shop drinks at home during lockdown.

Doubling the number of products in its vegan food range to include a wider selection of vegan ready meals, oven food, and cooking ingredients at the start of 2020, they now sell a number of vegan treats including Bosh, vegan baking mixes and vegan brioche buns. For this reason, it is easy to see why Waitrose has become a popular supermarket amongst the UK’s plant-based population.
