Green Anti-Ageing Health Smoothie
If it’s green, it’s good for you! The deep dark green of this savoury anti-inflammatory smoothie is like forest-bathing, but from the inside out.
You might wrinkle your face, as I do, on the initial hit of silky goodness. And then be assailed by the peppery sharpness of rocket, and acidity of lime.
But, as nutritionist and Hippocrates advocate Nadia Byron, says: This is so good for you! It’s anti-ageing, balances blood-sugar, helps with joint problems and arthritis.
And it is the slightly bitter, astringent taste of greens that makes this smoothie so healthy. Greens for their pure anti-oxidant power, are some of the healthiest foods you can eat.
They supercharge your immunity and power you into radiant health. Your skin will show the radiance too!
It’s a good all-round health tonic. Try it, see how you feel! I have adapted my recipe from Nadia’s ,who shared it with me when I studied at the College of Naturopathic Medicine(CNM).
Nadia uses garlic and fennel, which I omit. But I have added lime, apple and extra spinach. For extra sweetness you can add more apple, or pear.
Serving size/Yield: 2x 400ml portion
Ingredients
+ 400mls spring water
+ ½ a granny smith (for more sweetness you can use a red apple)
+ ¼ cucumber (unpeeled, washed, chopped)
+ 2 large handfuls spinach (washed)
+ 1 handful rocket (washed)
+ 55 g fresh ginger (unpeeled if organic)
+ ¼ to ½ avocado, depending on size (peeled)
+ 1 small lime, preferably organic, (unpeeled, washed) *
+ 2 or 3 ice cubes
*I use a Vitamix vita pre-3. If you don’t have such a powerful blender, you may want to peel the lime.
Directions
- First add your water.
- Add the remaining ingredients, and blend thoroughly until completely silky
- Adjust the thickness of the smoothie by adding more, or less water
- Enjoy immediately
- Can be refrigerated for a maximum 6 hours in an airtight container.
